This semester has presented me with an opportunity to write on Kara Walker, an artist I have been wanting to research and write on for some time now. Walker presents me with an enormous list of questions and contradictions, mostly revolving around whether her work is harmful in its presentation of racist and sexist stereotypes. Is Walker’s artistic ideology legit—does her work undermine social stereotypes by bringing them to light? I often vacillate between yea and nay… so i’m pumped to research and write on her!
